Electricidade de Moçambique, E.P. (EDM) held, on August 30, 2022, the Gala commemorating the Company's 45th anniversary, marked on Saturday, August 27. The ceremony, led by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, was attended by various individuals, cooperation partners and EDM workers.
During the event, the President of the Republic praised the EDM workers who sacrifice so much, determined to bring energy from Ponta d’Ouro to Kionga, emphasizing their role as true actors in the national economy.
For the Head of State, “EDM’s history is a true story of tenacity and persistence. EDM is the story of Mozambique's development and irrefutable evidence that when the objectives are clear, nothing takes us away from our focus, which is to develop Mozambique”, he acknowledged.
However, he challenged EDM to continue making efforts towards its operational profitability, by reducing energy losses in transport and clandestine connections. In addition to controlling infrastructure costs, according to the President of the Republic, EDM must also restructure the energy balance in order to maintain its financial balance. “This aim is important to build trust with financial institutions and development partners”, highlighted the Head of State.
The Gender Strategy was also one of the issues highlighted in the President of the Republic's speech, congratulating EDM for the initiatives implemented to achieve the target of 40% of the female labor force by the year 2030, which will contribute to the valorization of the force of female work in the Energy Sector.
In turn, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of EDM, Marcelino Gildo Alberto, recognized that in the trajectory of hard work and structuring achievements, the Company's greatest asset has always been the worker who “knows the potential of energy to transform and modernize our Country, was committed and remains committed to the noble mission of electrifying the extensive national territory”.
In the context of these celebrations and within the scope of the Company's Social Responsibility Policy, EDM's PCA announced on the occasion the offer of 500 surgical interventions to remove Cataracts. According to Marcelino Gildo Alberto, with this initiative, “EDM intends to return vision to those who need it. This act adds to our mission of giving light to those who live in darkness!”, highlighted the EDM PCA, who also announced the Company's support in training 200 girls in the Electricity Installation course in pre-selected Professional Training institutions. in all Provinces.
